The newcomers in Citywire's European ratings

by Joel Schoppig on Aug 03, 2010 at 12:01

The latest Citywire ratings for Europe are out. Based on their three year risk adjusted performance 38 fund managers appear in our ratings for the first time this month.

Coming out on top amongst these newcomers was Kjell Morten Hjornevik whose 1.13 manager ratio earned him an AAA rating. Hjornevik's Carlson Fund – Scandinavia outperformed the MSCI Nordic Countries index by 11.3% over the last three years.

He joined Carlson in 1999 where he started working as a portfolio manager within the global tactical asset allocation team and since 2008 he has been a fund manager in Nordic equities.

Also AAA-rated is Roger Morley, manager of the MFS Meridian Funds European Core Equity fund. He invests in European large caps through a bottom up stock picking approach and outperformed the MSCI Europe by 10.3% over the three year period.

Régis Bégué, who manages Lazard Freres Gestion’s Objectif Actions Euro Fund, also debuted with an AAA rating. The fund invests in European equities and shows a strong bias towards French companies.

The fourth manager to be AAA-rated for the first time this month is Cecilia Auvray. The Handelsbanken Funds Nordic Shares fund earned her a three year manager ratio of 0.81.

Another MFS manager to debut in the Citywire ratings is Jeffrey Constantino, who received an AA rating. The MFS Meridian Funds Global Growth fund for which he is responsible performed 8.9 percent better than the MSCI world over the last 36 months.

A noteworthy new entrant into the A-rated list is Sanjeev Shah  who now manages Fidelity legend Anthony Bolton's former fund, Fidelity Special Situations. Shah has been able to keep up the fund's strong perfomance and has outperformed the FTSE All Share TR by 10.6% since he took over in May 2007.

Tom Stubbe Olsen  also made his first appearance in the Citywire ratings. The well know value manager struggled with his Nordea 1 - European Value Fund during 2007 but his Citywire A-rating suggests that his value style has brought him back on track in the last three years.
