Accumulator: global equities rise, dollar falls as US hikes rates

Some investors were caught out by the weakening of the dollar this week, which followed the Federal Reserve's decision to raise interest rates.

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) increased its benchmark interest rate by 0.25% to a range between 0.75% and 1% - a move that was largely expected. However, some investors were surprised by the dollar weakness which immediately followed. This had ramifications for sterling investors and happened because the FOMC did not flag any plans to accelerate the pace of monetary tightening.
