Citywire Selection Verdict: Agricultural commodities had a tough 2011, giving back some but not all of the astonishing gains they made in 2010. The only bright spot in the seven commodity ETF basket was corn which was marginally up, but overall the ETF fell 14% in the year. The biggest detractors were soybeans and wheat which fell 15% and 33% respectively. Agriculture is directly linked to two fundamentals, the quality of the harvests in each commodity and the strength of the global economy, both of which are uncertain.
