Investment Trust Insider: issue 28 out now!

Welcome to this month's issue of Investment Trust Insider.

I’ve been on the look-out for information on asset allocation since last year when a group of Citywire Money readers told me that knowing how to spread their investment trust holdings across different markets and asset classes was by far their biggest challenge.

Fortunately, the latest Guide to the Markets from JP Morgan Asset Management gave me the opportunity to produce our first feature this month, which shows how a balanced portfolio can generate FTSE-beating returns with much fewer peaks and crashes than the UK stock market index.

The only challenge is choosing which investment trusts to implement your chosen mix of equities, bonds and other asset classes!

Share buy-backs have shot to 2008 levels as some investment trust boards strive to keep their funds' share prices closer to their underlying net asset values during the pre-EU referendum uncertainty.

Our second feature explains how buy-backs, and their big sister, tender offers, work and highlights boards that have been slow to take action on behalf of shareholders.

There has been nothing slow about Lindsell Train (LTI ) investment trust’s share price. Powered by its holding in the trust’s unquoted fund management company, the shares have soared to a long-standing premium. Can other trusts emulate this? We consider the facts in our last article.
