Mixed signals from Friends Provident today as Trevor Matthews beats expectations and arrives to take up the position of chief executive, accompanied by a former financial officer of Equitable Life.
Markets
Trevor Matthews has joined Friends Provident as chief executive today after several months on gardening leave.
Friends Provident has also appointed Charles Bellringer, who led the financial reconstruction project at Equitable Life from 2001, as interim chief financial officer. Bellringer was chief finance and investment officer at Equitable.
He replaces Jim Smart, who always intended to leave Friends Provident after the completion of its strategic review in January. His departure was announced in March.
Bellringer will fill the role and remain on the board until a permanent CFO is appointed.
Matthews left his role as head of life and pensions at Standard Life earlier this year.
