Mike Levy joins Barings' EMEA equity team
Baring Asset Management has appointed Mike Levy as senior investment manager of the Europe, Middle East and Africa equity team.
Baring Asset Management has appointed Mike Levy as senior investment manager in the Europe, Middle East and Africa equity team.
In his London-based role, Levy reports to Ghadir Abu Leil-Cooper, who is head of the EMEA equity team.
Levy, who has more than 14 years’ experience in the industry, joins from AllianceBernstein where he has been a manager since 1998.
He has contributed to the management of international and emerging equity portfolios, with a specific focus on EMEA markets, having led the regional portfolio management effort in this field.
Before this, Levy helped manage frontier equity portfolios with a focus on Africa. He had previously been an analyst at Alliance Capital Management.
Leil-Cooper said: ‘We believe there is a compelling long-term investment case for the EMEA region driven by attractive fundamentals.
‘The region is supported by favourable demographics (a young and growing population and an increasing middle class) forming a strong and underleveraged consumer base and relatively low levels of government debt compared to developed countries.
‘Much of the region is rich in commodities which help pay for the improving infrastructure needed to support economic development. At Barings we seek to access this growth story using a Growth at a Reasonable Price investment philosophy.’
Barings recently appointed Sean Chang from HSBC Global Asset Management to head up the firm’s Asian debt team.
