Aviva closes commercial insurance offices
by Daniel Grote on Jun 20, 2012 at 08:10
Aviva is to close two regional offices and has asked staff to volunteer for redundancy, as part of a shake-up to its general insurance business, according to the Financial Times.
The move does not affect Aviva's life business. It has told 41 staff at its Northampton and Luton branches that it plans to close the offices and has asked for voluntary redundancy candidates among its 700-strong commercial insurance business.
It said it was hoping to avoid company redundancies. Gareth Hemming, trading director at Aviva UK's regional broker operation, said the business's geographic location did not match with where insurance brokers were based.
'The broker marker has changed over the last few years,' he told the paper. 'Our footprint is an old footprint - it hasn't kept pace with broker consolidation.'
