Gordon looks to internet phones for a saving

Milton Gordon plans to shave £2,000 from his budget by dropping the land line and start to use internet phones.

The Henley-on-Thames financial adviser said he had already used internet phones service like Skype - which allow him to make calls for free through his broadband internet - at home and now hoped to use them at work. ‘I will be making better use of technology rather than using more people – some of the ideas aren’t earth shattering – like making better use of VOIP [voice over internet protocol,’ said the principal of Milton Gordon & Co, which has three advisers.

‘It won’t be a huge saving but every little helps – it will probably save about £2,000 per year,’ said Gordon, adding he would be looking to cutting costs in other areas of the business.

Gordon was also working on plans to boost his income by segmenting his clients over the next year. ‘We are making sure we are charging people for our work,’ he said. Gordon was prompted ‘to do a Brett Davidson’ when he found 80% of his income came from 20% of his 1,100 clients.
