IFA makes sixth charity trip to help orphans in South Africa

Middlesbrough-based Alexandra’s Financial Management director Neil Flint is visiting South Africa for the sixth time to continue his charity work for orphans.

Flint (pictured) visited the country in 2010 as part of a scouting trip for the Lionsraw movement, which helps disadvantaged people. Since then he has helped build an orphanage and a school.

He has taken a client from Middlesbrough to survey progress at the school, which he aims to expand greatly from its current capacity of 200 students. He also plans to set up a feeding programme.

Flint received feedback from the school’s head that the children were making good progress but some were falling asleep in classes due to malnutrition. The feeding programme is designed to address this problem.

‘We’re not there to change everything,’ said Flint, before leaving for South Africa last week. ‘Our view is that if we bring them education, which will bring on a change. But we need to see them through that first generation.’

The school is located in the Valley of a Thousand Hills, near Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. The expansion work will also create jobs for locals.
