Dear Diary: a week in the life of an IFA

Took a client meeting on Monday, driving a bus on Tuesday and on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday, chilled on Sunday

Monday

Home office desk at 8am and some client deals to process. Then review meet prep for my 11.30 in Cheltenham with a client of 15+ years who sadly lost her husband last year and her elderly mother who lived with them just a couple of months ago. Back home for three hours at desk and then 7.30pm local meeting with a couple where the wife’s mum has died and inheritance monies are due. 9.45pm home and finish.

Tuesday

Office day today from 8am, working on writing up review meeting summaries to post to clients (I usually turn these around in 14 days). Quite a few Letter of Authority (LOA) replies in the past week for a new client so working through these and updating my initial summary from the paperwork they had showed. Identifying which LOAs are outstanding to chase and making some phone calls. Out at 7pm for a meeting about volunteer bus driving I do every three weeks for an Age Concern lunch club as new organisers have taken over. Home by 8.30pm.

Wednesday

Another office day from 8am, updating myself on post-review summaries from September so only the two from Monday this week now to do. Between these, other admin and a few calls and emails earlier in the day, I’ll be staying in the office until 10pm tonight so today is this week’s token ‘horrible day’. Have to prep for a day on the road tomorrow so a bit of a long one. Is it the weekend yet?

Thursday

Two client meets today: 10am in Basingstoke for a half-yearly review (after swinging by Screwfix to pick up some reserved items, I know how to live…) and then into central London for a new client meeting near Big Ben at 3pm. In between I have some time to deal with mails and calls from the car. London meet is sister of Monday evening’s client so we discuss her share of inheritance from their late mum. Back home just after 7pm.

Friday

Office day today, other than my three-weekly chiropractor session at 12pm locally – I swear he is some sort of sorcerer as I always feel much better afterwards (he is also a client). Some rejected LOAs to deal with (is it just me or are providers getting harder to extract info from) and some client calls to book more half-yearly review meets in. All booked solid now for next two weeks. Here for builders merchants delivery too (more DIY). Close down at 4.30pm to get ready for an evening out in Henley, well it is POETS day – bring on the weekend!
