Invesco Perpetual reshuffles global equities team

Invesco Perpetual has shaken up its global equity team, appointing a lead manager to the Global Opportunities fund for the first time.

UK fund manager Stephen Anness will step into the role of Global Opportunities fund manager on 1 January 2013.

He will hand over the reins of his current Invesco Perpetual UK Aggressive fund to Martin Walker, who is also manager of the UK Growth fund.

Nick Hamilton, head of global equity products, said that Anness was looking for a new career challenge.

‘Stephen will focus on the constrained approach [the Global Opportunities fund] and the group will focus on the concentrated approach [the second global fund under the team],’ he said. ‘We will run money for clients in the UK and we are looking to export our capabilities to other markets.’

This strategy involves Anness also running a US-domiciled global opportunities fund.

Chief investment officer Nick Mustoe said that giving two UK funds to Walker was a logical move due to his experience in the field.

The £53 million Global Opportunities fund has returned 6.29% over five years, compared to the MSCI World benchmark, which gave 14.77% over the same timeframe.

Hamilton said the restructure was not performance related.
