Jacksons eyes stronger local foothold after hiring ex-HSBC adviser

Jacksons Wealth Management has hired a local former HSBC adviser as a paraplanner.

Paul Jackson has joined the Penzance-based firm to support finance director Roger Weeks and managing director Pete Matthew, and will train to become an adviser.

Jackson, who is Matthew’s brother-in-law, worked for 25 years at a branch of HSBC. Matthew (pictured) said his experience with the local community would be valuable.

‘He has a big swathe of relationships in the area. He left HSBC after it closed its advice arm and joined us in December 2012, said Matthew. ‘When he becomes an adviser, it will be new for us because he will join as a self-employed person.

‘If it works, we will do the same again by taking on a junior adviser and training them up.’

Matthew said a local presence and having individuals who were well known in the community were important in Cornwall. Jackson had built up a good reputation when working at HSBC, he said.

‘We are trying to a get a local foothold, and family names help,’ said Matthew.

‘Maybe it goes back to when I first started here, up against it as a Yorkshire lad in Cornwall.’
