Net gains! It's the World Cup of fund managers!

As the World Cup kicks off in Russia, we ask: who would win in a world cup of fund managers?

Methodology

Yes it is that time again. It is the World Cup, which this year is being held in Russia.

As per the standard rules of football, each team will succeed or fail based on the number of times its players kick, head, or scissor kick the ball into the goal.

We could not apply those rules to fund managers because we do not have a multi-million pound budget for that kind of thing (yet).

But just imagine - for a second - that the World Cup was won and lost over not over goal scoring but over investment returns.

That is what we have done here. We have taken all the teams playing in the tournament and grouped them as they will play against each other in the next month.

We have then divided these countries into equivalent equity sectors only including funds Registered for Sale in UK.

We then took the best manager(s) per sector based on them having the highest sector-specific manager ratio (an aggregated information ratio based off of the funds they ran in that sector vs their Citywire-assigned benchmarks) over the last three years. This was to ensure the manager was not providing just a high total return, but real value versus an objective benchmark.
