Aaron Mears - RDP Financial Services

Position available:

Apprentice and paraplanner.

Qualifications required?

None

Employed/self-employed?

Employed

Why is your firm different?

We are a new company that specialise in working with charities. We are part owned by a large firm of accountants and offer services to the clients of the partner firm. As such a lot of our work is directed at the corporate and high-net-worth individual market and we need to acquire new advisers and paraplanners to support the demands of our expanding client base.

What is your plan for 2013 – how does this hire tie into your plans?

We have a staged implementation plan to support the corporate element of our proposition while continuing to increase our overall service proposition and market size. The new hire will support this development and help us meet our service level agreements.

Alan Gow – Argonaut Paraplanning

Position available:

Paraplanner / senior paraplanner. The position is unlikely to be available until a few months into 2013.

Qualifications required?

At least Dip PFS, but the ability to apply knowledge is just as important. We also like to see a sample report (ideally not too heavily templated – we like to get an idea of a candidate’s writing style) and a CV.

Employed/self-employed?

Initially we would be looking for someone who is self-employed. This situation will change over time and there may be scope to move from a self-employed to an employed position. This would be a point for discussion in more detail with individual applicants.

Why is your firm different?

We pride ourselves on the quality of what we do, explaining technical issues in simple terms and producing thorough and accurate work. We like to be flexible in terms of working hours and styles. Knowledge counts for a lot and we want to treat staff well and retain them. The business is built on the knowledge and experience of those within it. All we ask is that staff maintain our high standards in everything they do.

What is your plan for 2013 – how does this hire tie into your plans?

We expect to be looking for one additional paraplanner fairly early in 2013. Ideally this would be someone who can be flexible with workload but who ultimately would be looking for a permanent role.

Cathi Harrison – Para-Sols

Positions available:

Paraplanners and trainee paraplanners, either in Darlington or London offices.

Qualifications required?

Ideally minimum of diploma but if they are working towards their diploma they can come on as a trainee

Employed/self-employed?

Employed

Why is your firm different?

We try and strike a balance between outsourced and conventional employment. Our staff spend a couple of days in the office (providing valuable team support and ensuring they don’t get lonely) and also a couple of days working from home (giving them flexibility and saving on commuting time). This gives them the best of both worlds and it is also company policy to finish early on a Friday for wine!

What is your plan for 2013 – how does this hire tie into your plans?

We’ve seen a huge amount of demand and so will continue to grow, expanding our London office in particular. We are also launching some new services in January which will require additional resources and this is another reason for hiring.

Damian Davies – Timebank

Position available:

Paraplanner

Qualifications required?

Chartered or certified financial planner

Employed/self-employed?

Employed

Why is your firm different?

We embrace the work to live ethos and offer our paraplanners the opportunity to run their lifestyles. Also, our view of a paraplanner is different to most, and so we want our paraplanner’s view of the industry to be different to that of most other paraplanners.

We expect that our paraplanners are either chartered or certified or very near to achieving either and that they will act as a critical friend to our clients, helping them towards their business goals.

We want a commercially aware individual who has a genuinely progressive way of thinking and above all else, we want our paraplanners to have more pride in their attitude than in their qualifications.

In return, we offer a unique opportunity to work for one of the most innovative employers in the industry who actively promotes the ‘work to live not live to work’ ethos.

Importantly, our paraplanners will be able to put your technical and analytical abilities and experiences to practice on a wide diversity of cases and styles.

(L-R) Clive Corbett and Andrew Peters – Deep Blue Financial

Position available:

Full time paraplanner

Qualifications required?

Full diploma would be desirable, but working towards diploma would be considered

Employed/self-employed?

Why is your firm different?

We are committed to organic growth, supporting our staff and promoting internally. We are also different in relation to the advice we give on pensions which is not simply limited to personal arrangements but encompasses final salary schemes and fee-based advice.

What is your plan for 2013 – how does this hire tie into your plans?

2013 is intended to be a consolidation year for Deep Blue Financial. 2012, was a big year for growth and our plan was to double the size of our company within five years. Our consultancy force was doubled within five months. We need to expand our administration side to consolidate that growth.

Shireen Fernie – Carbon Financial Partners

Position available:

At Carbon it is not about which positions we have available, we can always make space for who we view as the right calibre person, whatever the role may be. Our focus is on getting the right people into the business and building on their strengths. Anyone interested in finding out more about working with us, should send their CV to me.

Qualifications required?

Our minimum entry level for trainee paraplanner is the diploma.

Employed/self-employed?

All our staff are employed, with generous benefits packages and bonuses paid for going the extra mile.

Why is your firm different?

Carbon provides every employee with support, training, education and the opportunity to develop personally and professionally. We work as a team.

We are passionate about working with people to find their strengths and then developing this talent to benefit the individual and the business.

We pay all staff additional reward for discretionary effort. We like to work hard but also to have fun.

What is your plan for 2013 – how does this hire tie into your plans?

We will continue to look for and create opportunity. Our preference is to grow the business organically by finding good people who understand our philosophy and can fit in to our culture. Since we launched Carbon in 2011 we have grown the number of staff from 27 to the current 34. We believe we are well positioned for the retail distribution review and the opportunities this may bring.
