Robertson Baxter wins bid to advise local university

Huddersfield-based firm Robertson Baxter has fended off competition from national IFAs to land the University of Huddersfield as a client.

Following its appointment in December, Robertson Baxter will provide advice on the university’s investment portfolio and help it with compliance and legal requirements.

The firm will meet with the university every six months and evaluate the performance, risk and fees of the portfolio as well as setting benchmarks. The portfolio is run by a selection of fund managers. Robertson Baxter has helped in the appointment of an additional manager to run further funds for the university.

The firm advises on around £90 million of assets, around a quarter of which is for trustees and charities.

Robertson Baxter director Greg Robertson (pictured right)said the firm shared common values with the university. ‘From our local base in Huddersfield, we are able to deliver exactly what the university needs by bringing together global investment solutions from the country’s leading wealth managers along with independent performance analysis to ensure we get the best results,’ he said.

The University of Huddersfield finance director Andrew McConnell (pictured left) said appointing the firm had allowed it to improve its engagement with fund managers.

‘We have already found Robertson Baxter has been able to engage with our investment management firms in a manner that simply has not been possible for us to do previously,’ he said.
