Tom Senogles, independent financial planner at Rutland-based Efficient Portfolio Wealth Management, obtained the pensions transfer specialist qualification in October and was recently presented with the Chartered Insurance Institute award for best performance in gaining the diploma.
He aims to achieve chartered status towards the end of this year, before targeting the fellowship of the Personal Finance Society.
Senogles (pictured), who started out in an outsourced paraplanning role, said: ‘When you work for just one firm you only learn one approach to doing things, and you tend to see a similar style of client.
‘Working for over 30 different advisers and firms, I saw a wide range of client profiles, circumstances and objectives, as well as different approaches to how best to address them.’
He credited managing director Charlie Reading, who helped him plan his career. ‘It can feel like a long way to go at the start of your career, but by breaking down goals to three years, one year, and quarterly, can make it seem more manageable,’ Senogles said.
