Hertfordshire-based Skeltons is set to branch out into workplace advice and help employers cope with pension auto-enrolment when it comes into force in 2012.
Skeltons, which uses Paradigm as its support services provider, has signed up to Paradigm’s employee benefits platform Jargon Free Benefits, which was developed using Staff Care administration software.
Skeltons director Rob Skelton said auto-enrolment presented opportunities for IFAs to expand their businesses.
‘I’m not looking to get out there and sell group pensions; we are looking to get involved in auto-enrolment – and the compliance companies will face dealing with that and their payroll,’ he said.
‘The challenge is how to advise small businesses with no pension scheme. With auto-enrolment coming in from next year, there are various staging dates and, as an employer, it’s a challenge to comply with that.’
Skelton said there was a lot of work involved in employers auto-enrolling staff. ‘You need to know who you need to auto-enrol, then people will have the option of opting out and you have to enrol them and then opt them out. As a business, it’s a challenge, and we’ll do all of that by liaising with payroll and keeping records.’
Skelton said he hoped the workplace advice would lead to some crossover with his individual pension advice business.
