Pacific IFA embarks on recruitment drive to triple staff numbers

Chelmsford-based Pacific IFA has set out an ambitious expansion plan to nearly triple staff numbers over the next five years.

Pacific chief executive Mark Pentelow (pictured) said he wanted to recruit IFAs, and also paraplanners and administrators, so the firm’s advisers spend their time seeing clients.

‘In the retail distribution review world, everyone is encouraging advisers to cut costs and cut the back-office support,’ he said. ‘But I don’t want the advisers to be stuck in the office filling out paper. Clients want to build relationships with them.’

In May 2012 Pacific opened an office in London, in addition to the ones in Essex and Kent. It has recruited former Zurich sales manager Rod Edwards as business development manager.

Pacific currently has 32 members of staff, but over the next three years Pentelow plans to have 25 advisers, nine paraplanners, a finance director and an operations director.

‘It’s had its challenges, but it’s exciting,’ he said. ‘It’s the best team I’ve ever worked with. They are committed, driven, and no-one comes here for a job, they come for a career.’
