Towry hires ex-Newcastle player for Edinburgh office

National IFA Towry has signed an ex-footballer Pete Cormack as an adviser for its Edinburgh office.

Cormack, who spent 16 years as a defender in both the English and Scottish leagues and played for Newcastle United and Greenock Morton joins Towry from the Royal Bank of Scotland where he was a senior financial planning manager for ten years.

Cormack said: 'My professional footballing career across many Scottish clubs gave me a strong skill set for a position in financial services and I have built upon my playing career with a proven track record as an adviser. I’m looking forward to bringing these skills to new clients at Towry.'

Ross Cameron, wealth advice manager at Towry's Edinburgh office said there was a trend for former sports stars to break into the financial services market at the end of their playing careers.

You must be desperate for a headline as a Toon fan of over 40 years I cannot even remember seeing him play.

Wikipedia? no appearances and obviously no goals for Newcastle? No other England teams and therefore no English league appearances. Towry seems to be a good home. Best of luck.

Reminds me of the old Abbey Life days, another sales driven organisation, taking on Jimmy Greaves et al. Remember listening to Geoff Hurst phoning into a House in East London, speaking to Lil who shouted out to her hubbie, "I've got Geoff Hurst on the phone to talk Insurance", he replied "pull the other one". See, just because they are Professional footballers and we use that term loosely these days it doesn't make them professional advisers, we'll see.......

How on earth does playing football give you a strong skill set for being an ermmm. IFA (re TL proposition).

Still - he must have level 4 so good for him.

Bet he never said what is quoted

If he is the Peter Cormack born 1974, and he has spent 10 years as a senior financial planner with RBS and had 16 years as a professional footballer, it would appear that he left school at the age of 12,... I wonder how many O levels he managed to pass?

Goodness me, Mark Hoban would be having a fit,...

Still, he's probably got his level 4 and ten years at RBS is good enough for Coutts, sorry NatWest, sorry, Standard Chartered, sorry Towry,..

All these banks sound the same to me!

I had never heard of him either and am also a Toon fan. Apparently he never made the first team. He went to Greenock Morton in 1994 and left in 1999. Played until 2006 possibly as a semi professional.

Sorry, para planner/Toon supporter's curiosity

Evidently he started out with Newcastle when he was 19/20, but didn't play any game for them, He played 112 games in a career of about 13 years mostly with Scottish clubs.

Still it does show that many feel being a pr..k is a good qualification for advising even if they think being a footballer isn't.

What a pompous business this has sadly become.

Yeh no need for the personal slights. Its a radical departure for the Edinburgh FS scene. I remember when the best way to get a job with one of the many (where are they now) Edinburgh mutuals was to play Rugby for Scotland. Guaranteed to get you a new career.
