Wall Street Update: Dow edges higher after weak start

The Dow Jones industrial index fell back as expected in early deals, but prices proved more robust than London dealers anticipated and the key indicator soon jumped into positive territory, hitting an early high of 13,918.79.
After 30 minutes, at 3pm London time, the Dow was up 1.06 points at 13,914. Both the Standard & Poor 500 and the NASDAQ also moved higher.
US data is due on the personal income and consumption figures for August along with construction spending.
