Few can say they do not want to be made to feel special. Private banks know this all too well and have it as part of their resolve to attract wealthy, loyal clients. Here we look at some of the best perks they offer…
While concierge services and hospitality days have long been offered by wealth management companies, private banks and family offices, firms are now going beyond this.
From a day’s experience learning to be a zookeeper to lunch at Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester, we look at some of the best perks private banks are offering to lure clients.
Barclays – Little Book of Wonders
Barclays has partnered with luxury brand partners to launch a digital platform for clients offering experiences.
Through the service, called Little Book of Wonders, clients can select up to five complimentary experiences per year, spanning 12 ‘lifestyle areas’ that include home, family, philanthropy, cars, boats and bikes, alongside arts and culture.
Clients are able to specify what they are interested in and Barclays informs them when experiences come up that fit their interests.
On some occasions, Barclays contributes towards the cost of the experience, alongside the corporate partner. The initiative is separate to corporate hospitality invites.
Easter egg making
Barclays offers its clients and their children the opportunity to learn how to make Easter eggs in the kitchen at Claridges through its Little Book of Wonders tool. Other perks include a private viewing of the Crown Jewels, alongside a private tour of the Churchill War Rooms for the history fanatics among their client base.
Battersea Power Station tour pre-development
Barclays Little Book of Wonders also offered its users the opportunity to go to the top of the viewing platform at Battersea Power Station before work started on the iconic building's redevelopment. Other experiences include track days offered by car manufacturers.
Be a zookeeper for the day
Children of Barclays' clients were also given the experience to see what it is like to work as a zookeeper for the day.
Victoria Bennett, head of Little Book of Wonders, said the bank prefers to offer a more hands-on and interactive experience, beyond standard corporate hospitality.
‘A good example of how we work is that instead of inviting clients to the Royal Opera to watch a performance and enjoy the hospitality. We would invite them to the last dress rehearsal and have lunch with the cast. It is different from the traditional the hospitality approach.’
Coutts says thank you

What a £25k outlay gets you
For those who spend up to £25,000 on the Coutts Silk card, the gifts include a Kindle PaperWhite, Dom Pérignon champagne box, breakfast and spa experience for two at the Bulgari Hotel & Residences, and an annual subscription to Prospect magazine.
Up to £50,000…
Clients qualify to go ‘fee-free’ for the year and no longer have to pay the annual £350 Silk card fee.
The £75,000 barrier
Cients can get a Kindle Fire; lunch for two at a range of restaurants including The French by Simon Rogan in Manchester, Coya in London, Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester (pictured); and a round of golf for two at Stoke Park.
HSBC Private Bank
HSBC Private Bank’s dedicated ‘Exclusive Benefits’ landing page plugs its high profile sports sponsorships and a range of invite-only events. These include a ‘next generation’ programme for families, covering wealth planning and family governance through to a thought leadership event series for family business owners.
Clients have also been invited to the Chelsea Flower Show (pictured); Pavillon des Arts et du Design; and the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad.
