Sashi Reddy, co-manager of the First State Indian Subcontinent fund, believes that the Indian government’s 50 basis point interest rate cut is ‘too much, too soon’. Reddy points to the newly created Indian consumer price index as evidence that inflation is not at the publicised 28 month low of 6.9% and that coalition pressure on the government has forced the move.
