Barclays creates new role to bolster offshore business
by Elsa Buchanan on Aug 13, 2013 at 07:30
Barclays’ wealth and investment management division has appointed Evan Gavas for the newly-created role of head of core business within its offshore and local market unit.
Based in Jersey, Gavas (pictured) will be responsible for Barclays Wealth and Investment Management’s offshore corporate banking business in London, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.
He will report to Paul Savery, managing director of the division, who said: ‘[Gavas] created and led a highly successful team in Cyprus and this experience will be instrumental in leading the offshore corporate banking business in London, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man.’
Previously country director for Barclays Wealth and Investment Management in Cyprus for four years, Gavas joined Barclays in 2007 as chief of staff within the commercial bank in the UK.
He subsequently served as director of strategy for Barclays Commercial in Europe.
Before joining Barclays, Gavas had spells at global strategy consulting firm AT Kearney as a strategy consultant, and Nedbank Private Banking in South Africa.
This follows the appointment of former RBC head, Julie Fairclough, as Jersey wealth director, replacing Chris Tushingham earlier this year.
