Barclays tops FOS complaints league with 11,500 gripes

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) received over 11,500 complaints in relation to Barclays over the second half of last year, with the bank topping its list of complaints out of all of its peers.

MBNA Europe Bank was responsible for the second largest number of complaints, notching up 9,185, while Lloyds TSB came third in the list after the FOS received 7,467 complaints in the final six months of last year linked to the part-nationalised bank.

According to the latest FOS data, of Barclays' 11,524 complaints, 361 were linked to investments.  In Lloyds' case, 75 of the total complaints were linked to investments.

Royal Bank of Scotland came further down in the FOS list, which was published today.  A total of 1,827 complaints about the bank were sent to the ombudsman, with 47 of these related to investments.

Wealth manager St James's Place notched up 50 complaints over the stretch, according to the FOS data. Of these, 17 were linked to investments.

AWD Chase de Vere was the subject of 38 complaints.
