Baring hires A-rated Martin Currie star Goodwin as resources head
Baring Asset Management has hired Citywire A-rated Duncan Goodwin to head its global resources team, Wealth Manager can reveal.
Goodwin will also run Barings' Global Resources fund. Around a month ago Goodwin (pictured) left Martin Currie where he was investment director and head of global resources, managing the $139 million (£86 million) Martin Currie Global Resources fund, having been with the firm since 2005.
Goodwin is replacing Jonathan Blake, who left Baring at the end of last month, and will start at Barings in January.
Over the past 12 months, the $564 million (£344 million) Baring Global Resources fund is down 6.85%, underperforming its 60% MSCI AC World Metals/40% MSCI AC World Energy composite benchmark, which fell by 3.26% over the same period.
Tim Scholefield, head of equities at Barings said: 'Global resources is a key capability for Barings and I am pleased to welcome Duncan to lead the team. His experience and expertise will ensure that we continue to strengthen our investment proposition for clients.'
