Bitcoin back above $1,000 on gaming boost
by Dylan Lobo on Jan 06, 2014 at 07:56
The value of Bitcoin is back above the $1,000 mark after a gaming firm said it would accept the virtual currency as a form of payment.
In a statement posted on website Reddit, Zynga said it is working with bitcoin payment company BitPay to accept the currency on a handful of its games including Farmville 2 and CastleVille.
The news comes after Android-based video games console-maker Ouya accepted bitcoin payments for its hardware last month.
Bitcoin, which peaked at $1,250 on 18 December has undergone severe volatility over the last month with it value more than halving at one point after China’s biggest trading platform, BTC China, put a block on the currency.
It now trades close to $1,030 on the MTGox exchange.
