Close Brothers hires research head from AllianceBernstein
by Robert St George on Jan 07, 2014 at 10:07
Robert Alster has joined Close Brothers Asset Management as its head of research.
Alster formerly managed the global industrials component of the AllianceBernstein Global Growth Trends fund, and also led the fund’s analyst team. The fund returned 19.4% in the three years to the end of November, compared with 45.7% from its benchmark MSCI World index.
In the new role Alster will report to Nancy Curtin, chief investment officer at Close Brothers, and will be responsible for leading a centralised fundamental equity research team in support of the firm’s investment managers.
‘The global economy is picking up and we believe that security selection will be a key driver of return performance,’ commented Curtin (pictured). ‘We take a global perspective on investment opportunities and we believe in deep fundamental research. It is more important than ever for us to have a strong research team as we search to identify the most rewarding investment opportunities for our clients.’
