FCA hires ex-Goldmans MD for investment arm

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has appointed a former Goldman Sachs and UBS managing director as an adviser in its wholesale banking and investment management division.

In the new part-time role, James Kelly will advise the team on supervisory strategy, starting immediately and reporting to Will Amos, director of the FCA’s wholesale banking and investment management division.

‘It’s vital that we continue to appoint individuals with sector specific expertise into the FCA, and James has that in spades. His knowledge of the market and strategic insight will be hugely valuable,’ commented Clive Adamson (pictured), director of supervision at the FCA.

‘This is the latest high-profile addition to the supervisory team at the FCA and I’m sure it will be welcomed by the industry.’

Kelly added: ‘The investment banking sector continues to experience considerable change, especially with regards to regulation. I’m looking forward to sharing my experience with Clive, Will and the rest of the team.’

His appointment follows the recruitment of former Kleinwort Benson boss Rob Taylor as head of wealth management and private banking in the FCA’s supervision division.
