Fidelity hires Barclays Wealth's Bateman for multi-manager team

Fidelity Worldwide Investment has strengthened its multi-manager team with the appointment of James Bateman as portfolio manager.

Bateman will join in January, leaving his post as vice-president of multi-manager and fund research at Barclays Wealth.

Bateman will lead the existing team of three portfolio managers and will be in charge of the development of the manager selection process for global equity products managed in London.

At Barclays Wealth he is responsible for five multi-manager funds comprising assets of £2.3 billion and the sole fund researcher for 40 third party funds.

Andrew Wells, global chief investment officer at Fidelity, said that Bateman ‘brings considerable expertise in research and fund selection. We have ambitious plans to expand our multi-manager business and James will be a key contributor to our achievement of these goals.’
