Former Investec energy manager Waghorn to join Guinness AM
by Danielle Levy on Sep 05, 2013 at 11:10
Former Investec Global Energy manager Jonathan Waghorn is to join Guinness Asset Management, Wealth Manager can reveal.
He replaces Ian Mortimer, who previously formed part of the management team. He is to step back to concentrate on the firm’s global equity income franchise.
Lacey has since joined Schroders, while the Investec fund is now managed by ex-Guinness manager Tom Nelson and Charles Whall, formerly of Newton.
Guinness founder and chief executive Tim Guinness said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Jonathan to the firm. He is a proven energy fund manager with first-rate investment experience and is a natural fit to join the firm.’
Guinness said the hire marks the next stage in the boutique’s expansion, adding: ‘We hope it means that we are going to get recognised as the place to come for specialist energy fund management.’
Over the three years to the end of August, the Guinness Global Energy fund has posted a 26.4% return compared to a 33.4% rise by the FTSE Oil & Gas index, according to Lipper.
During the three years up to Lacey and Waghorn’s departure from Investec in April 2012 they posted a 15.5% return versus a 30.1% rise by the benchmark.
