FOS complaints double as Lloyds tops list of shame

Lloyds Banking Group has topped the Financial Ombudsman Service list of most complained about firms in the second half of 2012 as the total number of complaints made to the FOS doubled from the six months before.

Lloyds Banking Group, which includes the Halifax, Lloyds TSB and Bank of Scotland brands, received 93,454 complaints, followed by Barclays which had 45,532.

Royal Bank of Scotland came on third with 19,214 complaints and HSBC fourth with 16,573.

The FOS saw a 110% increase in new complaints in this period, receiving a record total of 283,251 new cases.

Complaints about PPI made up 74% of the total complaints referred to the FOS between 1 July and 31 December 2012.
