FTSE 100 ends year up 14.43%, its largest gain since 2009

The FTSE 100 rose by 14.43% in 2013, its largest yearly rise since 2009.

The index climbed 851.28 points from 5897.81 to 6749.09 and hit an intra-year high of 6777.70 on October 30.

Meanwhile, the FTSE 250 rose by 28.77% over the course of the year to an all-time high of 15,935.35.

Elsewhere, the S&P Europe 350 index recorded a full year gain of 21% with information technology, consumer discretionary and telecoms leading the way.
