Giles Hargreave

Giles Hargreave is chairman of Hargreave Hale Ltd. Born in Preston, Lancashire, in 1948, he studied at Cambridge. After starting his career in 1969 as an analyst with James Capel, Giles joined Management Agency and Music as a private fund manager in 1974 before founding Hargreave Investment Management in 1986. Giles then merged Hargreave Investment Management with Hargreave Hale & Co, a provincial stockbroking firm controlled by other members of his family, in 1988 and took over as chief executive. Giles chairs the investment committee’s weekly meetings in which the team reviews existing and potential investments.

Objective

The Fund aims to provide capital growth by investing in smaller companies, new issues and companies going through a difficult period with good recovery prospects. The fund will invest mainly in, although is not limited to, equities and may hold cash and near cash at times when it is considered appropriate by the Manager. The fund may invest in derivatives and forward transactions for the reduction of risk or costs, or the generation of additional capital or income with an acceptably low level of risk. The fund invests mainly in The UK.
