Henderson hires ex-Thames River partner as EM debt head

Henderson Global Investors has named former F&C Investments manager and Thames River Capital partner Steve Drew as head of emerging market credit.

Drew (pictured) resigned from London-based F&C, the parent company of Thames River Capital, at the end of 2012.

In his new role he will work alongside Citywire A-rated Stephen Thariyan, global head of credit, and Phil Apel, head of fixed income, in building out the emerging market credit team.

During his tenure with Thames River Capital, Drew had served as head of global and emerging credit and managed over $2.4 billion (£1.4 billion) in assets, of which around $1.2 billion was in emerging market credit.

He brings with him 20 years of global credit experience and has previously worked at JP Morgan Chase and Tudor Capital.

Commenting on the appointment, Thariyan said: ‘Steve brings valuable investment knowledge, client relations and management skills to the team.’

‘His understanding of the emerging market credit sector, together with his impressive track record with client money and proven ability to help raise assets, will be hugely beneficial as we focus on expanding the scale of our fixed income franchise globally.’

The move is set to be followed by the appointment of a specialist investment team focused on emerging market credit, which Henderson intends to add over the course of 2014. The group said this would lead to product launches in this area further down the line.
