Invesco Perpetual hires former SocGen CIO for Barnett’s team

John Richards has been recruited by Invesco Perpetual as its UK equities product director.

Richards was previously chief investment officer at Société Générale Asset Management UK between 1997 and 2007, having started his career at Mercury Asset Management in 1983.

He left Mercury as head of investment for UK institutions, and after exiting Société Générale he developed a hotel and restaurant business in France.

At Invesco Perpetual, Richards will have responsibility for communicating Invesco Perpetual’s UK equities investment capabilities both internally and externally.

The firm has also promoted Hilary Cook to the same position; she joined Invesco Perpetual in 2011 and was previously product manager within the marketing department covering UK equities.

‘These new appointments reflect the fact that as a business we not only develop and nurture exceptional talent from within the business but continue to attract what we believe to be the best from outside,’ said Nick Mustoe, chief investment officer at Invesco Perpetual.

The appointments follow the recruitment of unquoted companies specialist Frederick Bouverat from Numis and Tom Tuite Dalton from Oriel, both revealed by Wealth Manager earlier this month.

The naming of the product directors fills a gap created by the departure of William Deer and Mitchell Fraser-Jones to join Neil Woodford’s new venture, as revealed by Wealth Manager last year.
