James Brearley man steps down after 30 years

Veteran Mike Barnett has resigned from his director role at James Brearley & Sons.

Barnett has been linked to James Brearley for over three decades. He was a partner through the 1980s and 1990s and became a director on incorporation in 1999.

He stepped back from taking an active role in the business in 2001 and was appointed a non-executive at the time.

'Mike had been with us for a substantial period of time - he was there during the partnership days, and whilst the partnership incorporated. Mike had a lot of knowledge and experience to bring to bear, and has done since 2011 in the oversight of the business,' director Nigel Corrie told Wealth Manager.

Corrie added the firm had no plans to replace Barnett.

Recently, the firm joined up with Metro Bank to offer a lending facility secured against clients’ assets, after posting positive results for the second year running. The wealth manager posted a profit of just under £151,000 after tax over the 12 months to the end of April.

The results follow a restructure in 2011 when the firm slashed nearly £1 million in costs by closing two regional offices. Since the restructure, the wealth manager has increased its assets to more than £900 million from £750 million in 2011.
