Midlands wealth boutique buys financial planning firm
by Elsa Buchanan on Apr 30, 2014 at 14:15
BRI Wealth Management, the Midlands-based boutique, is set for regional expansion following its purchase of Walter & Co Financial Planning.
As Walter & Co is headquartered in Bridgnorth, Shropshire, the deal will mean BRI now has a second office in the Bridgnorth area.
It will be run by existing Walter & Co staff, including Tim Walter, who founded the financial planning firm in 2003, and Catherine Lear, administration manager.
The acquisition is part of BRI’s plan to double assets under management by 2017. The combined business will manage £250 million.
BRI’s commercial director, chartered financial planner and former Wealth Manager cover star Hannah Edwards, explained the firm was looking to expand into Shropshire, although Walter’s clients are UK-wide.
‘Many of our London clients want the personal service but don’t necessarily want to pay London prices, so they are keen to access a more regional boutique player.
‘The Bridgnorth office starts to establish the footprint throughout the region. As a considerable number of our clients are from Worcestershire, Shropshire and Herefordshire, we want to have a base closer to that client bank.’
BRI had formerly concentrated on investment management, but opted to move into financial planning in 2010.
Formerly known as BRI Asset Management, the firm was rebranded as BRI Wealth Management in January.
The business was founded in 1968 in Birmingham, before moving to Meriden near Solihull in the early 1990s.
