Neuberger Berman launches short duration EMD fund

Neuberger Berman has added a short duration product to its range of emerging-market debt funds.

The Neuberger Berman Short Duration Emerging Market Debt fund, launched today with assets of £13 million, is co-managed by Nish Popat, Jennifer Gorgoll and Bart Van der Made.

The trio were recruited from ING in May, and they already run the Neuberger Berman Emerging Market Debt fund in both hard and local currency formats, as well as the Neuberger Berman Emerging Market Debt Corporate Debt fund.

Their new vehicle will exclusively focus on ‘hard currency’ bonds and avoid the use of synthetic investment exposure, while the emphasis on shorter duration issues should dampen volatility.

‘Investors continue to seek returns in a rising rate environment and we believe the NB Short Duration Emerging Market Debt fund offers access to an attractive part of the capital structure, whilst limiting the potential portfolio impacts of rising interest rates,’ commented Popat (pictured).
