New hire sees RBC's 'ambitious' growth plan extend to Dublin

RBC Wealth Management is planning a push into the Irish private client market and has hired a new business development head.

David McLaughlin has joined as business development director for Ireland and will be based in Dublin to support RBC’s ‘ambitious’ plans for growth.

He previously worked as an investor relations consultant at biotechnology firm Elan, though also has experience as an investment adviser, gained at a Dublin family office.

‘David’s appointment is recognition there are excellent opportunities to support our ambitious growth objectives through partnerships in the Irish market,’ said Mike Moodie, head of RBC Wealth Management UK.

‘David’s personal and professional understanding of the market makes him a great asset, and his role will be crucial in promoting our global integrated wealth management services to local specialists.’

The Canada-based bank has been hoping to scale up its operations in the UK and last autumn hired a new head of charities. Former HSBC director Nick Reid came on board to help tap a ‘significant’ opportunity in the charities market.
