Alex Wright: why I’m betting big on Ladbrokes Coral

Alex Wright is a contrarian, value investor who likes to buy out-of-favour stocks he believes will do well. Under his management Fidelity Special Values (FSV) has delivered a 108% total shareholder return, ranking the investment trust third in the AIC All Companies sector, although the past 12 months has been more difficult with an 8.5% return.

In this video interview, Wright discusses the state of the market, the UK economy and the pound, before moving on to assess some of the winners and losers in his £660 million portfolio such as Homeserve (HSV), Burford Capital (BURF), Carpetright (CPRC), Mothercare (MTC), Findel (FDL), Sports Direct (SPD), Ultra Electronics (ULE) and Saga (SAGAG).

He also explains why he believes there is further upside to come at Ladbrokes Coral (LCL), the recently merged bookmakers that is being bought by rival GVC but faces a government review on its lucrative fixed odds betting terminals.
