All the action! Citywire wins Calastone World Cup curtain raiser

England's World Cup campaign can draw inspiration from Citywire's victory in Calastone's Funds Charity Shield, which raises awareness for Children in Crisis.

Champions

Citywire claimed an historic victory at the 4th Funds Charity Shield last night. 28 teams took part including the likes of Henderson, Invesco and Investec.

Drawn in a tricky group including eventual runners up IFDS and a spirited Friends Life team, Citywire won through its six group games without conceding a goal, only dropping points in one goalless draw.

Quarter final and semi final wins against Sarasin and Charles Stanley followed before the return of IFDS in the final in front of a packed crowd.

Having gone 70 minutes without conceding Citywire was holding on at 1:1 on full time. Dan Barber, Michael Atta-Mensah, Elliot Jacobs and Liam Rollason all kept the nerves on sudden death spot kicks before Liam kept out their 5th penalty leaving debutant Mikul Patel to slot home the winning penalty.

Dan also collected the player of the tournament award with a number of decisive goals to complement an organised defence.
