Barclays considers FT and BoE bosses in search for chair

The former Bank of England deputy governor Howard Davies (pictured) and the former chief executive of the Financial Times Rona Fairhead are among the candidates short-listed as next chair of Barclays.

A ‘handful’ of other names were also being considered said the report in the Sunday Times, with a final decision on the appointment expected by the end of this year.

The search is being led by Barclays non-executive director John Sunderland. The position is currently occupied by David Walker, who replaced Marcus Agius in 2012 following the latter’s departure over the Libor scandal, alongside chief executive Bob Diamond.

Walker was expected to serve for a maximum of three-years before a long-term successor was identified.
