Rothschild has hired Barclays Wealth & Investment Management's Kevin Gardiner as a global investment strategist for its wealth management business.

Gardiner (pictured) had been Europe CIO of  Barclays Wealth & Investment Management since 2009, leading a team of 20 portfolio analysts and investment strategists.

He joins Rothschilld in August, reporting to Veit de Maddalena and Richard Martin, global co-heads of Rothschild’s wealth management & trust business and Mark Kary, head of Rothschild’s wealth management business in the UK.

Gardiner will play a prominent role in the global investment committee, providing macro investment advice that will form part of Rothchild's investment thinking and portfolio construction, which will have a direct impact on client portfolios and support investment research.

'We are delighted that Kevin has chosen to join Rothschild as global investment strategist. This new role is fundamental to Rothschild’s investment ethos, which focuses on wealth preservation and on providing ‘real’ returns, after inflation, for our increasingly high value and sophisticated clients,' de Maddalena and Martin said.

Before his role at Barclays, Gardiner was managing director and head of equity strategy for HSBC’s investment bank, and began his career as an economist at the Bank of England.

'Kevin Gardiner decided to leave Barclays Wealth and Investment Management earlier this year.  We wish him well in his future role.  His successor will be announced in due course,' Barclays said in a statement.
