Barings launches Euro small-cap fund for Select stars

Baring Asset Management is to launch a European small cap fund for Citywire A-rated Nick Williams (pictured) and co-manager Colin Riddles, the current managers of its Baring Select Trust.

The Baring Opportunities fund will invest in a portfolio of around 100 smaller companies based in Europe including UK, benchmarked against the MSCI Europe Smallcap Index.

‘We currently see a very positive environment for smaller companies in Europe and the UK,’ said Williams.

‘Recently there has been an improved sentiment towards European equities, and whilst we have seen gains in European and UK smaller companies we believe there remain interesting stock opportunities for us to identify and we continue to be bullish towards the smaller companies asset class on a pan-European basis.’

Over the last three years the two managers have returned 62.2% versus a peer average return of 50.8% and a HSBC Smaller European Companies ex-UK index return of 34.32%.
