Big City Bright Future

Big City Bright Future is a three-week work experience programme for school leavers looking to forge a career in the City.

The project is the brainchild of BlackRock in partnership with education charity IntoUniversity, which provides local learning centres where young people are inspired to achieve their full potential.

The mission is to bring higher education within the reach of students from disadvantaged areas in the UK and open up a world of new life-possibilities, including professional, corporate careers.

BlackRock and IntoUniversity have worked together for a number of years.

Under Tim Webb’s leadership, what initially started as a mentor programme has developed into an annual three week-work experience programme during the summer involving a number of City firms including Simmons & Simmons and Nomura.

Each lucky participating student will earn £1,200 for their efforts.

In the first week the students will take part in a ‘Bootcamp’ week at Kings College, London university where they will learn softer skills such as the art of  delivering presentations and how to network effectively.

The following two weeks they are allocated to a firm in the City for work experience, before returning to King College, London for a final day to reflect how the programme went.

After partnering with eight firms in 2016, Big City Bright Future hopes to attract over 100 students across 10-12 firms this year.

If you are a firm interested in participating in the programme, please contact nitin.sharma@blackrock.com.
