BlackRock hires ex-JPM thematic boss as global equity co-head

BlackRock has hired former JP Morgan AM manager Gary Clarke to serve as co-head within its global equity unit, the investment firm has announced.

Clarke (pictured below) stepped down from his post as head of global thematic investing at JPM last October.

He joined BlackRock’s London-based team at the start of August and will serve as joint head of the global equity department alongside James Bristow.

This unit is comprised of 19 investment professionals and oversees around $20 billion in assets across an array of global equity strategies.

His new role will centre on overseeing BlackRock’s range of global core and focus funds, as well as institutional mandates.

As well as his new senior role, Clarke will also assume fund manager responsibilities. This will see him named as sole lead on the BlackRock Long-Horizon Equity fund.

This fund, which is a US-domiciled global growth strategy, was formerly overseen by Bristow and co-manager Stuart Reeve.

Peter Kirkman assumed Clarke’s responsibilities at JPM following his departure late last year. Prior to three years with JPM, Clarke had also served as head of European equities at Schroders and also worked as a fund manager at both Gartmore and Rothschild.
