Budget 2017: the towns and cities on stamp duty hit lists

Online estate agent HouseSimple.com checks out the areas where (and where not) first time buyers can really exploit the chancellor's surprise decision to abolish stamp duty on purchases up to £300k.

The chancellor Philip Hammond pulled out the proverbial rabbit from the hat when he announced stamp duty would be abolished for all first time buyers (FTB) making home purchases with up to £300,000.

According to research by HouseSimple of 80 major UK towns and cities, 49.6% of properties currently for sale will now be stamp duty exempt for first time buyers.

 The online estate agent highlights the towns and cities where there is the highest and lowest percentage of properties currently for sale at or below the new stamp duty exempt rate for FTBs...
