Charles Stanley hires former Aviva Investors chief as CIO

Charles Stanley hires former Aviva Investors chief as CIO

Charles Stanley has hired former Aviva Investors chief executive Paul Abberley as chief investment officer.

Abberley (pictured), who was also CIO at the life company’s investment arm, left last November following its restructure.

Prior to Aviva, he spent eight years at ABN Amro Asset Management as chief investment officer in its fixed income and investment solutions teams, as well being chairman of the firm’s London board.

In his new role at Charles Stanley, Abberley will lead the wealth manager’s investment strategy committee, co-ordinate its research and oversee the communication of this.

He will report into Anthony Scott, head of investment management and director at Charles Stanley.

Scott said: ‘In Paul we have found a top class chief investment officer with whom I look forward to working closely as we look to revitalise Charles Stanley’s research output and asset allocation modelling within the new regulatory framework.”

‘This appointment underlines the commitment at Charles Stanley to providing clients and investment managers with the very best research function in the investment management industry and the importance of the chief investment officer’s role cannot be understated in the current regulatory climate. I wish him well in his new role.’

Abberley added: ‘I am delighted to be joining Charles Stanley at such an important moment. The current investment environment and regulatory backdrop provide both challenges and opportunities for the delivery of the high quality investment services our clients need and expect.

‘I am confident that I can contribute positively to our meeting and exceeding those expectations.’
