Coutts hires Lord Waldegrave and ex-UBS private equity head

Coutts has appointed Lord Waldegrave of North Hill and Francesca Barnes to its board of directors, to act as senior ambassadors and provide expertise for the firm’s UK business.

In taking on these roles, Lord Waldegrave and Barnes will support Coutts’ senior management in the UK, while helping to develop its client franchise.

Rory Tapner, CEO of wealth, said: ‘William Waldegrave and Francesca Barnes will lend significant advice and expertise to Coutts’ UK business at a pivotal point in our growth strategy.’

Waldegrave has had an established career in politics, holding cabinet posts between 1990 and 1997, as secretary of state for health, among other roles.

He entered the House of Lords in 1999 and from 2000 to 2003 was president of the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee.

He has subsequently served as vice chairman of UBS and as chairman of the global financial institutions group at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein.

Most recently, Lord Waldegrave held a position as a non-executive director at Fleming Family & Partners.

Meanwhile Barnes has held a number of senior roles within UBS Investment Bank including global head of private equity, global risk manager, head of strategy and development and also chair of the UBS investment bank development board.

She currently holds a number of advisory roles including non-executive director at Capvis GP, a Swiss and German Private Equity business.
