Ex Gartmore duo Roberts and Himsworth join Eden Financial

Ex Gartmore duo Roberts and Himsworth join Eden Financial

Former Gartmore managers Leigh Himsworth and Dan Roberts have joined Eden Financial.

The duo start at the company at the beginning of July. Himsworth (pictured) will launch the CF Eden UK Select Opportunities Fund and Roberts the Eden global equity income fund which will be introduced later in the year.

The pair will report to Ed Rosengarten, former M&G chief executive of equities, who will be taking up the newly created position of head of asset management at Eden.

At Gartmore Himsworth was responsible for the Gartmore UK Alpha and Gartmore UK Growth funds, while Roberts managed the Citywire Selection Gartmore UK Equity Income fund.

Himsworth managed both funds between November 2009 and March 2011. He returned 23.55% on the UK Alpha fund and 17.65% on the UK Growth fund in the period versus a 22.82% rise in the FTSE All Share. He was last rated by Citywire in January, when he held an AAA-rating.

Meanwhile Roberts managed the Equity Income fund between July 2009 and April 2011 in which time he returned 39.9 versus a 38.5% gain in the FTSE 350 Higher Yield index.

Rosengarten said: Eden’s investment-driven, client-focused culture makes for an attractive proposition.  We’re finding that it’s exactly the right backdrop to appeal to really talented managers who share our values.

'What’s more, they bring with them very strong track records. Leigh and Dan’s arrival marks a notable milestone for Eden in the development of the asset management business.'

The double hire is the next stage of an ambitious growth strategy at Eden.

Rosengarten joined the firm in February to spearhead the firm's push into asset management with a remit to hire investment managers and a create a range of third party funds to target the wider market including intermediaries, wholesale and institutional clients.

The following month Eden hired Lucy Edwards from SC Davies Investment Management to help grow both its private client and asset management businesses.

The news means the three Gartmore stars who did not join Henderson following its acquisition of the firm all have new roles after JP Morgan secured the services of John Anderson in April.
